DR. MONTE GORES
Dr. Monte Gores is a board-certified acupuncturist and herbalist with more than 25 years of experience in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. His extensive clinical training and experience allow him to take a thoughtful, individualized approach to each patient’s health concerns and treatment goals.
Dr. Gores’ interest in Eastern medicine began in 1992 while studying at Arizona State University, where he began practicing yoga, martial arts, and meditation. In 1999, he began formal training in acupuncture, Qi Gong, and herbal medicine while apprenticing at the Quan Yin Healing Arts Center in San Francisco. His early clinical experience introduced him to an integrative approach to healthcare and the use of Chinese medicine alongside conventional medical care.
After several years working in the financial industry in Chicago and San Francisco, Dr. Gores made a significant career change and devoted himself to the study and practice of Chinese medicine. He spent a year studying the Chinese language before traveling to China to experience the cultural and historical roots of the medicine he intended to practice.
Upon returning to San Francisco, Dr. Gores attended the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM), where he completed four years of graduate-level training in Traditional Chinese Medicine. He graduated magna cum laude.
Dr. Gores also completed extensive clinical training in China, studying areas including orthopedics, diabetes, fertility, oncology, migraines, hepatitis, and nephrology.
After graduating, Dr. Gores established an acupuncture practice in Arizona. While maintaining a busy clinical practice, he continued his education by completing a two-year doctoral program at Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, earning a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM).
Today, Dr. Gores brings more than two decades of clinical experience, extensive academic training, and a lifelong commitment to Chinese medicine to his practice at Red Door Acupuncture.
Beyond the Clinic
Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Gores enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. His interests include hiking, rock climbing, skiing, mountain biking, tai chi, aikido, and cooking Italian food.
His background in movement, meditation, martial arts, and Chinese medicine continues to shape his holistic perspective on health and wellbeing.
Dr. Gores was awesome. I came to CdA for Ironman and needed some last minute treatment on my achilles and lower legs race week. He made time for me later in the day early enough in the week to allow for adequate recovery. Dr. Gores took the time to listen to my concerns and was very comprehensive in his treatment protocol. From acupuncture, to cupping, to massage. After a day of recovery - I felt much better and ready to go. No problems at all on race day. I don't know if I would have survived the full day without the last treatment from Dr. Gores. Extremely knowledgeable practitioner.
Dr. Monte Gores is a practitioner of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs working at the top of his craft. Having worked with several acupuncturists through the years Dr. Gores is simply the best I've had the pleasure of coming into contact with. A minimalist, with a deep understanding of human wellness and the systems that support it, he also shows great compassion and an understated, gentle sense of humor. I would recommend him to anyone, whether they are new to acupuncture or committed to it as a source of wellness.
Monte Gores is an amazing acupuncturist. Among many, many issues he eliminated the knee pain I was experiencing from arthritis. I was skeptical but he convinced me to have two treatments a week for four weeks and he was right! No more knee pain! Using his training in Chinese herbs Monte put me on a schedule of mushrooms and other herbs when I was diagnosed with two early melanomas. I am now 5 years out with no recurrence. Leaving Monte's care was a huge concern when we moved away from Flagstaff. I haven't found anyone of his caliber since.
